I look forward to Cyndi’s check-in every Thursday in our Macro Ninja Facebook group. She’s an absolute joy to coach, and it’s been inspiring to watch her gain food freedom, confidence, and happiness over the past year. For some, a year feels long, but for anyone committed to losing weight the right way, that time passes quickly and is well worth the results. Thank you, Cyndi, for sharing your journey with us.

SFM: When did your weight loss journey actually begin?
Cyndi: I got serious about losing weight in November 2017. After years of adrenal fatigue and a weakened immune system, I was finally regaining some energy. I didn’t know much about healthy weight loss, so I tried eating very low calories—around 1,200 a day—and doing lots of cardio. I spent up to an hour and a half on the treadmill trying to increase calorie burn, which wasn’t great for my adrenals. I lost about 25 pounds over the next six months, but then progress stopped no matter how much I exercised, and I felt miserable.
I followed that pattern off and on through 2018, and eventually started following Stay Fit Mom and other macro counters on Instagram. I was curious about macro counting, and in February 2019 I reached out to Stay Fit Mom. I felt their program was a much healthier path to regain my health and lose excess weight. I started with Coach Krista in March 2019 and haven’t looked back. It’s been the perfect fit for me.

SFM: You have been so consistent and steady throughout this process. What keeps you going?
Cyndi: I feel so much better physically and mentally when I follow my macros. One of the first changes I noticed was that the vague post-meal desire to eat—“I just need something but don’t know what”—disappeared. I was also surprised that I was eating more each day and still losing inches. That was incredibly motivating.
Having a coach to check in with weekly has been a huge blessing. I didn’t realize how much I needed that accountability; knowing I report in each week keeps me motivated in a positive way.
Most importantly, it works for me and I love how I feel. I wouldn’t trade the education I’ve gained through this process with Stay Fit Mom for anything.

SFM: What surprised you the most about learning to count macros?
Cyndi: The biggest surprise was realizing I wasn’t broken. Once I started counting macros and eating more balanced meals, I began losing inches and weight even when I couldn’t exercise for health reasons. I hadn’t expected eating more to help my metabolism, and it took some time to accept that.
Another sign my metabolism was improving: I began waking up hungry in the morning, which I hadn’t experienced in years. That excitement about feeling normal again was a great indicator that my body was healing.
SFM: You’ve encouraged many friends and family to join the program. What keeps you signing up month after month?
I’ve found a happy place in the Stay Fit Mom community. My coach has been wonderful from day one—supportive, responsive, and genuinely invested in my health journey. There’s an extra level of commitment when you know someone is checking in each week. The community of women in the group is also incredibly supportive and kind, which makes the whole experience enjoyable rather than stressful.
SFM: What are the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome to stick to the plan?
Planning has been the key. If I plan my day the night before or first thing in the morning, I hit my goals without stress. I typically decide on an evening snack first, then plan dinner, and fill in the rest of the day around those choices. That approach works great for me.
I’ve also learned how to travel while staying within my macros. It takes a bit more planning, but it’s completely doable.
SFM: What does your family think about your progress and macro counting?
My family has been nothing but supportive, and I’m grateful. I asked my husband what he thinks about my macro journey, and he said he likes that I’ve found something that makes me happy. He’s noticed a change in my state of mind and the results I’m seeing. He appreciates that it hasn’t drastically changed our lifestyle—we still go out to dinner—and that I don’t feel deprived. He also enjoys the new recipes I try!

SFM: You’ve seen significant progress while working out minimally. Why do you think that is?
I believe the main change is that I’m finally eating a balanced diet and enough calories to revive my metabolism. Consistently hitting my macros translates into measurable results: clothes fit better, measurements improve, and the scale moves in the right direction. Exercise is important and I look forward to adding it regularly again, but this process taught me that nutrition is a larger piece of the health puzzle than I realized.

SFM: Any advice for anyone considering trying macro counting?
I recommend starting with a macro coach. Having someone experienced to guide you, tailor your plan, and answer questions has been invaluable. Don’t wait for the “perfect time” to start—today is a great day to begin something that will benefit your long-term health.
Trust the process. Macro counting becomes intuitive quickly, and with the right tools and support, you’ll learn to make it part of your life. If you feel drawn to try it, don’t overthink it—start now. Time will pass regardless, and imagine the difference a year from now.
