Savory Wild Rice and Mushroom Stuffing Recipe

Wild Rice Mushroom Dressing

Just in time for Thanksgiving, here is my recipe for wild rice mushroom dressing. This version is a favorite because the wild rice brings both flavor and a pleasant, chewy texture. I’m a huge fan of wild rice and welcome any chance to include it in a classic side dish.

This dressing can be made as simply or as elaborately as you like. Make everything from scratch, including the bread and broth, or use a few shortcuts like pre-made stuffing mix and store-bought broth to save time. Either approach yields a flavorful, unique dressing that’s likely to be popular at your holiday table.

We’re heading out to Great Wolf Lodge today with the kids, so I kept this post short. I didn’t want to leave for vacation without sharing my favorite stuffing—wishing us luck, patience, and lots of fun!

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed sage & onion stuffing mix
  • 1 ¾ cups chicken broth
  • ¼ cup dry white wine
  • 10 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 cups chopped mushrooms
  • ½ cup onion, finely diced
  • ½ cup celery, finely diced
  • 2 cups cooked wild rice

Instructions

  1. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Sauté the mushrooms, onion, and celery for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until softened. Remove from heat and gently fold the vegetables into the dry stuffing mix along with the cooked wild rice so the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the chicken broth, white wine, and the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter until the butter melts and the liquid is just simmering. Pour this hot liquid over the stuffing mixture and stir until everything is evenly moistened. Transfer to a baking dish, spreading into an even layer.
  3. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the dressing is heated through and the top is lightly golden. Remove from oven and let rest a few minutes before serving.
