Wooster: St. Paul Hotel {luxury in a small town}

During a recent trip to Wooster, Ohio, I stayed at the St. Paul Hotel. Given Wooster’s modest size compared with nearby towns, I was pleasantly surprised to discover an upscale boutique hotel in the downtown area. The St. Paul blends contemporary design with local craftsmanship and offers a comfortable, stylish base for exploring the town.

The room furnishings are sleek and modern, creating an inviting atmosphere. Many of the beds, desks, and dressers were crafted by Schantz Organ Company of Orrville. This hotel marked the company’s first venture into custom woodworking, and the pieces—made from black walnut—bring a refined, cohesive look to each room.

One of the highlights was the bathroom design. Finished with Italian tile and heated floors, the bathrooms are both elegant and practical—especially welcome during chilly months. The showers offer three water sources: a rain-style head, a wall-mounted head, and a hand-held wand, all enclosed in tempered glass produced by the Wooster Glass Company.

Overall, our stay was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast—fresh muffins and coffee—was a pleasant way to start the day. The hotel’s downtown location places you within easy reach of local attractions such as Blue Spruce Boutique, the Wayne County Public Library, Secrest Arboretum & Gardens, and nearby wineries.

If you pass through Wooster this season or are visiting family, the St. Paul Hotel is a comfortable, stylish choice for an overnight stay. Its modern rooms, quality furnishings, and attentive service make it a memorable option in a small-town setting.
