Christmas chocolate bark

Christmas bark

Chocolate bark is a quick, forgiving dessert made from melted chocolate topped with your favorite mix-ins. This version uses three chocolates—white, semi-sweet and milk—for a festive marbled look and holiday flavors.

Can I prepare Christmas bark with just one type of chocolate?

Yes. Use whichever chocolate you prefer—dark, milk, semi-sweet or white. The recipe here uses white, semi-sweet and milk chocolate for contrast, but a single chocolate works fine.

Can I use a chocolate bar instead of chips?

Absolutely. Chop or break a bar into pieces and melt it. If baking to melt, keep an eye on the chocolate and adjust time as necessary so it softens but doesn’t scorch.

Three chocolate types

Microwave or double boiler?

Both methods work. Gently melt chocolate in short bursts in the microwave, stirring between intervals, or use a double boiler. Spread the melted chocolate on a tray, swirl to marble, and add toppings.

Cooling and setting

Let the bark cool at room temperature first, then transfer to the refrigerator to finish setting. Avoid refrigerating while the chocolate is still warm, which can cause condensation or bloom.

Toppings

Use any toppings you like: crushed peppermint candy cane, chopped nuts, M&M’s, cookies, dried fruit, or sprinkles are all great choices.

Melted chocolate

  • Use a skewer or toothpick to swirl the different chocolates together to create a marbled pattern.

Swirled chocolate
